NAMIBIA SCRAMBLE PAST MALAWI TO BOOK QUARTER-FINAL SPOT

Teenager Lazarus Kaimbi steered Namibia to a quarter-final meeting with neighbours South Africa in the Cosafa Senior Challenge after they snatched top place in Group B away from Malawi in Secunda on Thursday.
The Jomo Cosmos winger, who turns 20 next month, netted early in the second half to ensure a narrow 1-0 win for the Brave Warriors over Malawi in the group decider at the Lilian Ngoyi Stadium.
Namibia finished top of the Group B standings with seven points, one more than Malawi, who had only needed to draw to go through to the last eight.
Lesotho finished third in the group after beating the Comoros Islands 1-0 with a 74th minute goal from Moli Lesesa in Thursday’s other match in Secunda.
It was the first win for Likuena while the Indian Ocean islanders departed the tournament with three successive defeats, but certainly did not disgrace themselves.
Namibia’s progress completes the quarter-final line-up for the weekend. They now meet South Africa in Witbank on Saturday where three time champions Angola will also play against Madagascar in a double-header attraction.
On Sunday, Zambia take on Zimbabwe while Botswana play Mozambique, both in Secunda.
