Malwi vs Mozambique

Mozambique through to the semi final

MOZAMBIQUE became the first side to qualify for the semi final of the Cosafa Senior Challenge when they beat Malawi 1-0 in a close match played at Rufaro stadium on Sunday in which the kick off was at lunchtime to accommodated another match featuring Zambia and Namibia.

A first half strike by the impressive and duly named man of the match Josemar Machaisse was enough to seal the Mambas place in the last four of the 13th edition of Cosafa Senior Challenge.

Zambia also qualified after beating Namibia 1-0 in the second match of the day and the Namibian captain Quinton Jacobs was the man of the match

46 min Mozambique makes a change, Zainadine Chavango replaces Fanuel Massingue at centre back as the coach aims to solidify his defence as the match restarts with Mozambique leading 1-0

45 mins Referee blows to end the first half in which Mozambique dominated and duly led with a brilliant counter attack that saw Josemar Machaisse beating Charles Swini in goals for Malawi. It is 1-0 Mozambique as teams disappear for the break. The small crowd is getting behind Mozambique but the match still very much on the edge.

44 min Mozambique unbelievably stop a point blank header to keep his side in the game as Malawi presses for an equaliser.. The fourth official signals two minutes of added time.

41 mins Mozambique keeper beckons for assistance as referee stops play for him to be attended to. It is not clear how he got injured as he was alone and off ball.

37 mins Another brilliant effort from striker Jeremais Sitoe misses the right upright with Charles Swini in goals for Malawi missing. The goal seems to have given Mozambique and extra spring in their step. They are taking the match to Malawi but referee missing some obvious fouls.

34 mins GOAL The dangerous Josemar Machaisse started and ended a counter attack from a Malawi corner to give Mozambique a 1-0 lead. It was breathtaking movement that caught the Malawi short on numbers to light up the match that had hitherto produced too many good passing and movement but goals.

25 min Mozambique keeper makes two excellent saves to deny Victor Nyirenda and Hellings Mwakasungula.

20 mins Malawi slowly regaining their ground and placing with captain Peter Mgangira and Chikuepo Msowoya dictating the pace.

15 min Mozambique plays the balls into touch to allow Maupo Msowoya chance to be treated an earial challenge.

10 min Mistake by Mozambique keeper Albino Cossa gifts Malawi possession but Chiukepo Msowoya wastes the chance as keeper recovers to gather the low show. Still it is advantage Mozambique as Malawi fails to deal with left side of Mozambique attack where the speedy but dimunitive Arlindo Cumaio is causing havoc with close ball control and penetration.

6 min Malawi keeper Charles Swini rushes from the goal line to smoother a dangreous move as Mozambique's early pressure keeps the ball in Malawi half.

3 min Mozambique win first corner and the resultant kick is cleared from the box by defender Itayi Nundwe and a minute later they get another corner which is again dealt with cleanly.

1330 Away we go in Harare in the first of the double header Malawi versus Mozambique with Helder Pelembe.

13h20 As Kick off beckons, teams line up for national anthems but it is the Zambian Chipolopolo supporters whose team play later in the second match against Namibia who are making the most noise in the paltry crowd at Rufaro.

No match finished goalless at the venue since the beginning of the tournament in which 20 goals have been scored in the group matches.
