SA goalkeeper up for top FIFA award

Baroka FC goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke is a step closer to a prestigious FIFA award after making the short list of finalists for Goal of the Year.

Known as the FIFA Puskás Award, the prize is given the best goal of the previous season as voted for by the public.

Masuluke netted a brilliant last-minute equaliser for Baroka FC against Orlando Pirates in a South African Premier Soccer League clash on November 30 last year.

After a corner had been punched clear by Pirates keeper Jackson Mabokgwane, Masuluke attempted an audacious over-head kick that flew into the back of the net from 20-yards.

He will now hope to receive the majority of the public vote in order to beat off his rivals for the award – Deyna Castellanos from the Venezuela Women’s national team and Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud.
