MALAWI HOLD EGYPT

COSAFA side Malawi have held Egypt to a 1-1 draw in an international friendly played at the Cairo Stadium on Tuesday.

The match was a warm-up for both sides as they prepare for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Angola from January 10.

The home side took the lead on the stroke of halftime from the spot through midfielder Hosni Abd-Rabou, before Maupo Msowoya scored a late equaliser for the Malawians, who will be boosted by the result having also held African giants Cote d'Ivoire to a 1-1 draw in a 2010 World Cup qualifier in October.

Debutante Hazem Emam had an early chance for Egypt but shot wide, while Abd-Rabou hit the post with a curling free-kick.
Pharaohs captain Ahmed Hassan was brought down by Malawi goalkeeper Swadick Sanudi for a penalty which Abd-Rabou duly converted.
There was some concern for Malawi as first-choice stopper Sanudi was forced off with injury midway through the second period, but they ended on a high as Msowoya netted directly from a free-kick.
