PORTUGAL DOWN MOZAMBIQUE

COSAFA side Mozambique put up an excellent showing but two late goals helped Portugal to a 3-0 win in a friendly international at the Wanderers Cricket Ground in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

A 40 000-strong crowd turned out for the match, which had plenty of historical significance. Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz, a former South African tactician, was also born in Mozambique, making it a special evening for him.

After a goalless first half in which Portugal had a number of chances, they scored three times in half-an-hour after the break to seal the win.

Danny tapped home a Deco pass in the 51st minute, before setting up Hugo Almeida for a second with 15 minutes left to play.

Almeida netted his second in the 81st minute when Mozambique goalkeeper Lama spilled a shot from Cristiano Ronaldo.

The match was an excellent run-out for both teams in front of an enthusiastic crowd, more proof that World Cup fever is beginning to grip South Africa!
