COMOROS APPOINT AMOROS
Former France defender Manuel Amoros has been named the first foreign coach of the tiny island nation of the Comoros, who are competing in the upcoming African Nations Cup qualifiers for the first time.
Amoros, 48, will debut in September, when the Comoros begin their preliminaries away at Zambia in a qualifying group that also includes Libya and Mozambique.
The announcement was made on the Olympique Marseille website www.om.net, where Amoros had been working as a consultant.
The Comoros have only been FIFA members for five years and lost 10-2 on aggregate to Madagascar in an early round play-off match at the start of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
