BAMFUCHILE BACK IN CHARGE

Ben Bamfuchile has returned to the helm of Zambia’s national team and will take charge of their upcoming World Cup qualifying campaign, which gets underway next month. Bamfuchile, who is also coach of the Copperbelt-based club Power Dynamos, previously had a spell in charge of Zambia’s side in 1999 and at the 2000 African Nations Cup finals in Nigeria, after which he was fired. Bamfuchile, who was in charge for 17 matches, then sued the Football Association of Zambia for unpaid wages. Bamfuchile’s new task is to secure qualification for Zambia for the 2006 World Cup finals. They play in group one of the African qualifiers against Congo, Liberia, Mali, Senegal and Togo. Zambia are also in the quarter-finals of this year’s Cosafa Castle Cup.
