ANGOLA GOVERNMENT PLEDGE SUPPORT
Angola’s government have pledged full financial backing for their national side if they qualify for next year’s World Cup finals in Germany.
At the same time, officials have also pledged extensive support as the team prepare for January’s MTN African Cup of Nations in Egypt, to which they have already qualified.
Deputy sports minister Albino da Conceicao said discussions with the Angolan Football Federation have proven positive.
“It is our intention to ensure that we help the team to qualify for the World Cup finals for the first time and to make sure they are able to put up a satisfactory performance at the finals,” said Da Conceicao.
“We have been able to transform the wretched time this country has lived thorough, through the efforts of the team. We now what to prove we can participate at the highest level,” the minister added.
Angola host Gabon in their next World Cup qualifier in Luanda on September 4. They need two wins in the last two matches to ensure a first-ever World Cup finals appearance.
State-baked preparations for the match against Gabon included training camps in Johannesburg and Lisbon.
