FIFA TO VISIT SOUTH AFRICA AGAIN

FIFA are to conduct a second inspection of South Africa’s proposed World Cup venues next week, visiting five stadiums which have yet to be confirmed as venues.
The FIFA team, headed by competitions division director Jim Brown, will visit Cape Town, Kimberley, Polokwane, Klerksdorp and Nelspruit. They are also scheduled to stop in neighbouring Mozambique and Swaziland on check on accommodation facilities which could be used if Nelspruit is to host World Cup matches.
The tour party is made up of FIFA’s specialists in marketing, media, accommodation, telecommunications and competition matters.
In July, the same team visited eight proposed venues in Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth and Pretoria.
South Africa have proposed 13 venues for the hosting of the first World Cup finals in Africa but FIFA have made it clear they would like to see the number cut down to eight.
FIF general secretary Urs Linsi is to accompany the team but will be in Johannesburg only on Monday to attend a board meeting of the South Africa 2010 Local Organising Committee.
