SCORPIONS STING MAURITIUS
Madagascar recorded a relatively easy victory as they beat Indian Ocean rivals Mauritius 2-0 in a friendly international played at Antananrivo’s Mahamasina Municipal stadium on Sunday.
It was the first international since February for both countries, now putting together new teams in preparation for the start of the 2008 MTN African Cup of Nations qualifiers, due to get underway late next year.
Jean Fidele Randriamalala opened the scoring for the Scorpions with a 16th minute penalty after a foul from the Mauritius defence.
An individual effort from Faneva Imma Andriatsima doubled the score line with 10 minutes remain.
The Malagasy side dominated precedings against an inexperienced Mauritian side, for whom Guillano Edouard proved a defensive stalwart.
Both teams last competed in the Cosafa Castle Cup group competion in Curepipe in February when Mauritius beat Madagascar 2-0 in a first round tie.
