ANGOLA SQUAD FOR JAPAN FRIENDLY
Benfica striker Mantorras and experienced midfielder Andre will both miss Angola’s friendly international against Japan in Tokyo next week.
Coach Luis Oliveira Goncalves gave no reasons for their omission in naming his 21-man squad for the friendly international on November 16, which is the first that the Angolans will play after securing qualification last month for next year’s World Cup finals in Germany.
There is a first call up for midfielder Alex from newly crowned league champions Sagrada Esperanca and a return to the squad for the uncapped striker Edson from Portuguese club Pacos Ferreira
The Angolan coach has also recalled veteran midfielder Simao of AS Aviacao and Joel, from fellow cup finalists InterClube.
The friendly in Japan is Angola’s first match against Asian opposition and also serves as a warm-up for January’s African Nations Cup finals in Egypt, where the Angolans have been drawn in Group B with Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo and fellow World Cup finalists Togo.
