Four key aspects will now feature prominently in the selection of players for Botswana, the country’s new coach Colwyn Rowe has told the BOPA new agency.
The Englishman, appointed last week, said strength, technical awareness, psychological maturity and speed would be paramount in determining who would be chosen.
Botswana’s former coach Vesselin Jelusic also believed in physically strong players and although criticised for his selections, proved his detractors wrong as the Zebras performed beyond expectations.
Rowe, who began his work last week, said he was impressed with the enthusiasm and the work ethic of the players.
Rowe said for the next games he would focus on the mental preparation and also warned that despite the fact that football was not professional in Botswana did not warrant poor international performances. The Englishman is preparing the Zebras for the COSAFA Castle Cup semifinal against Zambia on August 18 as well as the start of the 2008 MTN African Cup of Nations finals.
His first game in charge will be a friendly against Uganda in Kampala at the weekend.
