Zambia are hoping to have captain Chris Katongo back from trials in Britain for Saturday’s Cosafa Castle Cup semifinal against Botswana in Lusaka.
Katongo was named in a 22-man squad by coach Patrick Phiri on Monday despite having left Jomo Cosmos last week for trials with an unnamed club in England.
Returning to the squad is his brother Felix, who was released by Cosmos at the end of last season for disciplinary reasons. He has rejoined Lusaka army club Green Buffaloes.
Phiri has also called up the National Assembly strike pair of Friday Kabubi and Given Singuluma.
Defender Lloyd Mumba is also back in the squad after a spell in Hungary.
Zambia’s bid to call-up Songwe Chalwe were rebuffed by South African club Moroka Swallows, who play a cup tie at the weekend.
Zambia are hoping to reach the final for the third successive year. Last yea they lost 1-0 to Zimbabwe in Mmabatho and in 2004 were beaten at home by Angola, who won on penalties after a goalless draw in Lusaka.
