South Africa have recalled former captain Sibusiso Zuma and winger Delron Buckley to their squad for Sunday’s MTN Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Zambia in late injury-enforced changes.
Caretaker coach Pitso Mosimane has also called up the uncapped striker Moses Spandeel for the crucial Group 11 clash in Lusaka
Zuma scored for his German club Arminia Bielefed on Saturday on his return to Bundesliga action for the first time this season after a lengthy injury lay-off and comes into the squad after the withdrawal of Glen Salmon of Dutch club FC Groningen.
Buckley, who recently moved on loan to Swiss club FC Basle, replaces injured Dillon Shepard while the Bloemfontein Celtic striker Spandeel comes in for injured Siyabonga Nomvete.
Buckley also scored at the weekend as Basle beat Lugano 4-0 in the Swiss Cup on Sunday.
Zuma last played for South Africa at the MTN Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt in January while the last of Buckley’s 60 caps came in a friendly against Germany in September last year.
Zambia can open up a five point lead over 2010 World Cup finalists South Africa in their qualifying group if they win Sunday’s match.
