SA CHAMPS APPOINT IGESUND

South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns have appointed Gordon Igesund as their new coach, abruptly ending the term of his predecessors less than five months after they won the league title.
Igesund was appointed on Monday to replace the duo of Argentine Miguel Gamondi and former South Africa captain Neil Tovey, who had steered the club to a first title in six seasons on May.
Gamondi and Tovey were replaced after five matches of the new season, in which they had won two, drawn two and lost one game.
Igesund is a three time past winner of South Africa’s Castle Premier Soccer League title, a distinction achieved with three different clubs.
But he was fired by Ajax Cape Town in May after two seasons of indifferent results.
