Jomo Cosmos striker Chris Katongo won the R20 000 prize as the player of the series in this year’s Cosafa Castle Cup.
The Zambia captain steered his country to a 2-0 win over Angola in Saturday’s final in Lusaka and had played in all of Zambia’s earlier matches in the tournament.
Katongo was joined in Saturday’s triumph by Billy Mwana of Lamontville Golden Arrows and the Free State Stars pair of Kennedy Mweene and Clive Hachilensa.
Zambia won the title for the thirds time, but it was their first triumph since 1998. Katongo had been on the losing side in the 2004 and 2005 finals.
Katongo was nominated ahead of the Angola goalkeeper Lama for the award.
