NAMIBIA SKIPPER BANNED BY CAF

Namibia captain Henrico Botes has been effectively suspended for the rest of his country’s MTN Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign after being handed a six match ban by the Confederation of African Football.

The ban for the South African-based striker follows his dismissal last month for spitting at an opponent.

Botes was sent off in the closing stages of Namibia’s 1-0 home win over Ethiopia in a Group 10 qualifier on Oct. 7.

Namibia have four more matches to play in their qualifying campaign and with a six match ban, Botes would also miss the first two games of the 2008 MTN Africa Cup of Nations finals in Ghana if his country qualify.

Namibia have three points from their opening two matches, lying second in the standings behind the Democratic Republic of Congo, who have four points.
