YOUNG SQUAD FOR ZIMBABWE

Zimbabwe has been forced to name a squad of 31 locally-based players for their Cosafa Castle Cup assignment in Mozambique later this month.
Coach Charles Mhlauri is to trim the side next week ahead of the Group A mini tournament in Maputo where Zimbabwe face Madagascar in the opening match of this year’s competition.
Mhlauri said he had decided to pick players from the country’s under-23 teams and consistent performers in the country’s premier league.
Mhlauri said he had hoped to include some of his South African-based players in the squad but that clubs had blocked the call-ups because the Cosafa Castle Cup matches fall outside of FIFA’s co-ordinated international calendar.
