ZUMA SETS UP SOUTH AFRICAN RECORD

Sibusiso Zuma scored twice on Saturday as South Africa overwhelmed Chad 4-0 in their MTN Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Durban to set up a new record winning score line for the country.
German-based Zuma got both his goals in the first half as the 2010 World Cup hosts stretched their lead in Group 11 to three points.
Nasief Morris opened the scoring in the 13th minute after Zuma had won a penalty in a challenge with Chad goalkeeper Mamadou Bouba that TV replays showed to be a generous decision by Rwanda referee Michel Gasingwa.
Morris’ penalty was his first international goal while Zuma took his career tally of national team goals into double figures with strikes from close range in the 23rd and 33rd minute against an outclassed defence.
A mazy run from Elrio van Heerden set up the fourth goal for South Africa in the 68th minute, finished off from close range by Siyabonga Nomvete.
The 4-0 score line bettered South Africa’s previous record of 4-1 set against Namibia, Gabon and Swaziland. It was also the country’s 200th international since returning from international isolation 15 years ago.
South Africa have yet to concede a goal in the qualifiers but effectively still need four points from their last two group matches to qualify for the finals in Ghana.
