Angolan international Gilberto, who made a successful comeback after an 18 month injury lay-off, has been handed a new four year contract with MTN CAF Champions League winners Al Ahli.
Gilberto, who underwent two operations and missed last year’s World Cup finals because of a serious Achilles tendon injury, will stay at the Egyptian club until 2011. He made his comeback last week in a MTN CAF Champions League win in the Ivory Coast, having played only two official matches in the previous 18 months. Gilberto suffered the injury in a warm-up international between Angola and Morocco in January 2006, on the eve of the MTN Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt. He made a comeback in September last year but aggravated the injury after two league games and spent the following nine months on the treatment table.
