Hosts Botswana upset more fancied Angola on post-match penalties to win the Cosafa Castle Cup Group C final in Gaborone on Sunday.
Goalkeeper Modiri Marumo was the hero with key saves in the shootout as Botswana won 3-1 after the match with the World Cup finalists ended in a goalless draw at the end of 90 minutes.
Botswana now advance for a second successive year to the last four of the southern African championship
They join Mozambique, South Africa and defending champions Zambia in the semifinals of the tournament.
The semifinal draw was postponed on Sunday to August 16.
Both Angola and Botswana showed the effects of a second game in successive days and created few chances in a tight final.
Botswana hit the upright in the first half as midfielder Michael Mogaldi launched himself on the end of a corner while Angola’s best chance came late in the game when Nelo’s long range shot was tipped over by Marumo.
Last year Botswana also created a similar upset at the same stage of the tournament when they beat South Africa.
Earlier on Sunday, Namibia won third place in the group with a 3-2 victory over Lesotho, all five goals coming in the second half.
Namibia built up a 3-0 lead despite being down to 10 men for the last 35 minutes with Brian Bendell scoring twice.
But Lesotho set up a tense finish as Sello Muso score twice in three minutes at the end of the game, the second from the penalty spot.
