The South African Breweries today announced that they have declined the offer to renew their sponsorship of the annual Southern African Championship with the Council of Southern Africa Football Association.
As a development tournament, the Cosafa Castle Cup was the testing ground for many prominent international stars, the most notable being Benni McCarthy, currently excelling with the English premier league club Blackburn Rovers.
The statement from South African Breweries said that they were delighted with the results from the sponsorship over their 11 year tenure and particularly thanked the members of Cosafa for taking part and the executives of Cosafa who ensured the tournament’s success.
SAB remain active sponsors of a number of Cosafa member National Association as well as several national leagues,
