The draw for the Cosafa under-17 championship, to be hosted in Windhoek, Namibia from December 8-15:
Group A: Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho
Group B: Mozambique, Swaziland, Zambia
Group C: Madagascar, Mauritius, South Africa
Group D: Angola, Malawi, Zimbabwe
All Cosafa members, save for the Seychelles, are to participate in the tournament, which has attracted widespread support. SuperSport have contributed an amount of R500 000 to the event and the Confederation of African Football US$25 000. The Namibian government is also backing the event.
“The U17 Tournament is a very important undertaking for Cosafa since it will fulfill the objective which is grassroots development and early exposure of the young footballers in the region,” said Namibia Football Association president John Muinjo
“Namibia has the capacity to successfully host the tournament and I wish to welcome all my brothers to Windhoek.
“At this juncture, the Namibia Football Association would like to thank Cosafa for the opportunity to host this tournament and further to thank CAF, Supersport and the South African Football Association for their respective investments and immense support of this tournament,” Muinjo added.
