Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune and defender Mokete Tsotetsi have withdrawn from South Africa’s squad for Wednesday’s Cosafa Castle Cup final against Zambia in Bloemfontein.
Platinum Stars’ goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands has been brought in to replace Khune, who has a suspected bout of malaria and went for blood tests on Monday.
It is the second time the uncapped Tsotetsi has been denied his dream of playing for the country by Chiefs management, who also pulled him out of last month’s semifinal against Botswana.
Chiefs officials said they did not want to risk any injury as they already have two defenders out for Sunday’s League Cup quarter-final against SuperSport United.
Thapelo Tshilo, who played in the 1-0 win over Botswana in the Cosafa Castle Cup semifinal, is back in the squad as cover for former Cosmos team mate Tsotetsi.
