Chipolopolo striker Lazarus Kambole says they are ready for Namibia in Saturday’s 2018 COSAFA Cup quarterfinal clash at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
Zambia and Namibia meet in the second of three competitive meetings in 2018 after drawing 1-1 in their final Group B match in January at the 2018 CHAN tournament in Morocco where Kambole scored Chipolopolo’s 24th minute equaliser to before both sides made their respective quarterfinal exits.
The third meeting will come this September in Windhoek in a 2019 AFCON Group K qualifier.
Furthermore, Namibia have dominated Zambia in their last two COSAFA Cup meetings eliminating the four-time winners in the 2015 quarterfinals en route to their debut regional title.
Namibia later edged Zambia in the 2016 Plate final.
“We have prepared well for this game, we know what they are capable of doing, we know them, they are a good side but we are also a good side,” Kambole said.
“It will be a different ball game compared to the one we played at CHAN, there is nothing like we draw for us coming into this game because to win the COSAFA Cup, we have to start with overcoming Namibia.”
Meanwhile, the match will also mark Kambole’s COSAFA debut and is in line for his eighth cap.
The Zesco United striker has made a memorable start to his Chipolopolo career with three goals so far since making his international debut at the 2018 CHAN where he scored two goals.
Kambole is also one of six players from that CHAN team at the 2018 COSAFA that prominently includes the Zanaco duo of goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata and defender Ziyo Tembo who will captain the team.
“In football we use the same language; there is nothing like these guys were in Morocco for CHAN. We are all here for COSAFA; one Zambia, one team, same goal to win the COSAFA Cup,” Kambole said.
“Personally, my first target is to help the team win the tournament but to win it, we as strikers must score the goals.”
Winner this Saturday will play victor of the June 3 quarterfinal clash between hosts Bafana Bafana and Madagascar on June 6 for a place in the June 9 finals.
