Angola get thumping win over Mozambique

Veteran Mateus Galiano scored twice and Gelson Dala added the third as Angola scored a comprehensive 3-0 win over Mozambique in their Cosafa Lusophone derby in Portugal on Tuesday.

Captain Mateus hit a defkected freekick home on the stroke of half-time to give Angola the lead at the interval and added a second with 77 minutes played. Gelson Dala’s goal came just two minutes later to ensure a comprehensive victory at the Rio Maior Municipal Stadium.

Angola handed a debut to former Spanish youth international Jonas Ramalho, and used uncapped Anderson Lucoqui, Ernest Panzu, and French-born Jeremie Bela, now in his second season at Birmingham City, off the bench.

Mozambique’s line-up included the South African based veteran Domingues and Kambala, the Baroka FC midfielder.

Both countries have been in Portugal preparing for next month’s resumption of the African Nations Cup qualifiers.

Mozambique also lost to Guinea Bissau in Rio Maior last week while Angola were supposed to play the same team on Sunday but the game was canceled after Guinea Bissau failed to present proof that they had conducted COVID-19 tests.

Angola will take on neighbours the Democratic Republic of Congo next month, seeking to get their Nations Cup qualification back on track after a poor start.

Mozambique’s next qualifiers are home and away against Cameroon in November.
