Both names young Seychelles selection

Seychelles coach Vivian Both has named his squad for the 2016 COSAFA Under-20 Championships, sponsored by PPC, that will be staged in South Africa’s North West province from December 7-16.

The island nation will parade what they hope are the next generation of stars to continue to help the country improve their national side, which has made great strides in recent years.

Most of the players are under the age of 18, making this one of the youngster squads in the tournament, with two 16-year-olds in Churchill Rose and Ryan Henriette.

Seychelles will, however, be targeting an improved performance in this year’s COSAFA Under-20 Championships after a disappointing showing in recent events.

It followed their best-ever showing in the competition in 2009, when the islanders beat the more fancied Namibia 4-2 in the group stages, and also ran regional giants South Africa close before going down to a narrow 2-1 loss in their pool match.

They have been drawn in a very difficult group that that also includes Angola, Sudan and fellow island nation Mauritius.

Any sort of positive results out of those three matches will be seen as a good step forward for the Seychelles selection.
