Lesotho the big winners in CHAN qualifiers

Lesotho scored perhaps the biggest surprise of the preliminary round of qualifying for the 2016 African Nations Championship when they ousted Botswana from the competition.

Twelve COSAFA nations were in action in the qualifiers over the weekend, but it was Lesotho who were most impressive as they came away with a 1-1 draw from Botswana that put them through on the away goals rule after the tie finished with the same score.

They now move on to meet Zimbabwe in the final round of qualifying after the Warriors claimed a 0-0 draw in the Comoros Islands that put them through 2-0 on aggregate.

South Africa won 2-0 in Mauritius to ease past the islanders 5-0 on aggregate, but will face a tough Angola in the next round.

Palancas Negras won by the same scoreline against Swaziland to advance 4-2 on aggregate.

Mozambique were the biggest winners of the round as they claimed a 4-0 success in Seychelles to win 9-1 on aggregate .

They now meet Zambia in the next stage after Chipolopolo defeated COSAFA Cup 2015 champions Namibia 6-5 on penalties as both teams won their home legs 2-1.
