Numba names provisional squad for 2017 COSAFA Under-20 Championships

Zambia coach Mumamba Numba has named his provisional squad for the 2017 COSAFA Under-20 Championships that will take place in Kitwe from December 6-16.

The Zambians are both holders of the regional championship and were also crowned African champions earlier this year, but it is largely a new group of players that will contest these finals.

Included is goalkeeper Bradley Mweene, nephew of Chipolopolo gloveman Kennedy Mweene.

Almost all of the players are 17 years old or younger, with midfielder John Mulalangabo the youngest having just past his 14th birthday.

It heralds a new era for the side, who will have their eye on the qualifiers for the 2019 African Youth Championships and the FIFA Under-20 World Cup that year.

Numba successfully led the Zambian side to glory at the COSAFA Under-17 Championships in Mauritius this year, with many of his players now taking the step up to the Under-20 side.

That includes joint top-scorer with the Under-17s, Lameck Banda and the highly-rated Prince Mumba
